I'll Be Home for Christmas!

The phrase, “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” has been around since 1943, when Bing Crosby first recorded it during World War II. Striking a chord with homesick soldiers and anxious families, it was an instant hit and the most requested song of the U.S.O. Like the post-war movie, “It’s a Wonderful Life,” this song has become a Christmas tradition.

On Sunday, December 14 at 10:30 a.m., the South Hill Singers, along with several others, will perform a musical drama based on the story of that song. In keeping with itsmessage, we are inviting many people from the church’s past to “Come Home for Christmas” and join us in this wonderful event. It is our wish that everyone could be here, but as during World War II there are some who will not be able to make it. Commitments, responsibilities and situations in life make it impossible to break away, but we anticipate a warm, friendly reunion with several dear friends. We hope you can be among them.

The small copy of the painting by Thomas Kinkade on this webpage reminds us of how good it feels to go home for church at Christmas. But if you’ve never visited South Hill Baptist Church, you will find the atmosphere warm and inviting, where “old acquaintances are not forgot” and new acquaintances become friends. As Judy Garland sang, “Faithful friends who are dear to us gather near to us once more,” and “Have yourself a merry little Christmas.” We hope you will come to this musical and experience our love. Thanksgiving Is Just Around the Corner

Thanksgiving has always been a family-oriented holiday, and we respect that tradition. On November 23, the Sunday before Thanksgiving, our morning worship service will include special music, congregational singing, a testimony time, a message from the Bible, and children’s church that emphasizes the need for families to gather in their homes in gratitude to our God.
